Early stage investing in Moldova today:
- Regulatory reforms have helped Moldova to steadily advance in the World Bank’s Doing Business rankings,
- However progress has been marred by the significant regulatory uncertainty and political upheaval brought on by the banking sector crisis. Despite the government’s commitment to further reduce red tape, tackle corruption and stimulate competition, recent reforms have yet to translate into substantial improvements in the investment climate
- Corruption is one of the main impediments to business development
- Bank lending is relatively underdeveloped in Moldova compared to regional peers.
My goals in Moldova
- The ESIL objective for 2018 is to start to introduce a basic understanding how an angel investing ecosystem can be built and to then develop a longer term strategy for Moldavia.
- The overall objectives of ESIL in Moldova will therefore be to significantly increase the general awareness and acceptance of private investing as a prime source of capital and make early engagement with potential early-stage investors and support them in the development of their initial investing activity
