Formally established in February 2025, this newly created network brings fresh momentum to the region’s investment scene, with a strong focus on supporting technology startups in Croatia and the wider Southeast Europe (SEE) region.
The initiative is led by Mihovil Barančić, a seasoned investor and longtime supporter of innovation in the region, who has stepped up once again to spearhead this network. His leadership is joined by a dedicated team of founding members, including ESIL Local Leaders Renata Brkic, who is now part of CBAN’s Management Board, and Mirna Marovic, both recognised for their contributions to the Croatian startup ecosystem and the advancement of women in angel investing.
Croatia’s entrepreneurial landscape has thrived over the past decade, with numerous tech startups emerging. The country’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and supportive government policies create an ideal environment for innovation. However, despite this progress, the ecosystem still faces several challenges — including limited access to early-stage capital, a relatively small pool of experienced angel investors, and the need for greater diversity and inclusion in investment communities.
CBAN leverages Croatia’s strengths while directly addressing these gaps by offering resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities. It aims to further boost the local economy and position Croatia as a key player in the SEE region’s startup ecosystem.
ESIL is especially proud to see some of its community members and trainees actively involved in this promising endeavor. CBAN has already gathered 12 members, and the group aims to become a cornerstone for angel investing in the region, offering new opportunities for both prospective investors and ambitious entrepreneurs.
“With CBAN, we’re building a strong and active community of business angels ready to support the next generation of tech entrepreneurs from Croatia and the wider SEE region. Our goal is to connect capital with innovation, while creating opportunities for diverse and emerging investors to take a part in shaping the future,” says Renata Brkic, CBAN Management Board.
CBAN’s formation also reflects the broader momentum created by initiatives like ESIL. CBAN is a powerful example of how this mission translates into real impact, helping to shape the future of European angel investing with commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and regional growth.
If you’re considering becoming an angel investor or are a startup seeking financing in the Croatian or SEE region, we encourage you to reach out to CBAN. In addition to networking and investment opportunities, ESIL will soon offer a dedicated training course (MOOC), hands-on workshops, and community events designed to support new investors and entrepreneurs. Stay tuned and get involved in shaping the future of innovation in the region!
